“TRANSBOUNDARY DNIESTER RIVER BASIN MANAGEMENT AND THE EU WATER FRAMEWORK DIRECTIVE”
The International Conference “Transboundary Dniester River Basin Management and the EU Water Framework Directive” will be held in Chisinau, Moldova, on October 2-3, 2008. It will be a follow-up to the Dniester River management conferences organized by the Ecological Society BIOTICA (1998 and 1999) and by Eco-TIRAS International Environmental Association of River Keepers, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, the South Branch of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Moldova, the International Association „Women in Europe for a Common Future” (WECF). The current Conference is supported by the MARTA Program from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is also invited that other interested donor agencies co-finance the Conference.
The current Conference is directed to evaluate the ongoing process in Dniester River basin ecosystems, the influence of antropogenic factors on their status, as well as on the Black Sea, and analysis of possible application of WFD measures to improve water quality and ecosystems' health. Special attention will be given to the current status of transboundary cooperation of riparian countries along the Dniester and the role which public can play in the formation of sustainable water policy.
NGOs will organize in parallel with the Conference the ECO-Forum “Dniester-2008”. Both the Conference and the NGO Forum will produce the resolutions directed to improve the management of the Dniester River Basin.
In the eve of the Conference traditionally the Proceedings will be published. The articles should be presented in the format which was used when proceedings on the conference from 2004 were published (look “Resources” at Eco-TIRAS website) (one interval, text Times New Roman, volume up to 5 pages, font size 12). As a rule, the article should include a introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusions as well as a bibliography [1, 2, 5] or [1-3]. Any language could be used taking into consideration the target audience. The article should be presented NO LATER THAN JUNE 15, 2008, by e-mail to the addresses: [email protected] and [email protected]. The message subject should be named “Dniester Conference … and family name of first author”. All figures and pictures will be reproduced in black-white, so coloured versions are not accepted. The figures should be understandable following reprinting. The formulas should be presented in a way which excludes their changes in case of re-formatting. The article should be complete and verified by the author. The drawings and tables should be included in the text after their citing. The tables should be presented on pages A4 in a book, but not album format.
